Youth Programs

Rock climbing is an excellent way to encourage kids to get active and explore the great outdoors. Junction Climbing Centre in London, Ontario, offers great recreational rock climbing programs for youth. Rock climbing is also a great way to build strength, coordination, and confidence. Our rock climbing youth recreation programs offer instruction and guidance from experienced climbers, so your child can learn the proper techniques and safety procedures.

Our rock climbing youth recreation programs will provide all of the necessary equipment, so you do not need to worry about purchasing anything. Optional membership add-on for $72.00 so you can climb outside of class time, with the option to add unlimited gear rental to this membership for $42.00 (rentals are included during the sessions). Memberships and rental add-ons are valid from your first day of class until your last day of class.

This program places a greater emphasis on climbing time than structured games or lessons. Our instructors will aim to teach some basic climbing skills but the primary focus will be to spend time climbing. All climbing equipment is provided during the session.

Senior Crushers

Senior Crushers is aimed at kids who want to climb on a regular basis with other kids around their same age. Development Programs

If your child is passionate about rock climbing and has experience, then our youth development program can help your child take their rock climbing and/or bouldering to the next level. One of the main benefits of our rock climbing youth development programs in Ontario is that they help young people develop confidence and self-esteem. Conquering a difficult rock face can give a real sense of achievement, and the sense of camaraderie within the group can be very supportive. These indoor rock climbing programs can also help to improve physical fitness and coordination. Our development program is focused on youth who are interested in improving as climbers with the potential to enter the competitive stream or simply progress through the sport as passionate lifelong climbers. This program is not geared towards first-time climbers.

Level 1 - Beginner

Level 2 - Intermediate

Level 3 - Advanced

This program is structured by skill level within each age group. New participants must start at Level 1, but instructors may adjust placements based on a child’s progress and will notify you if this changes their class day.

Lemurs

Formerly “E/F age categories”, Lemurs is the youngest group for kids who are interested in improving as climbers, with the potential to enter the competitive stream or simply progress through the sport as passionate lifelong climbers. Sessions are 60 minutes per week. Rentals are included during sessions.

Ages: Kids born 2016-2019

Chimpanzees

Formerly “C/D age categories”, Chimpanzees is the next age up for kids who are interested in improving as climbers, with the potential to enter the competitive stream or simply progress through the sport as passionate lifelong climbers. Sessions are 60 minutes per week, but parents have the option to extend this to 75 minutes. Rentals are included during sessions.

Ages: Kids born 2012-2015

Spring Season: April 25 - June 19

Gorillas

Formerly “A/B age categories”, Gorillas is the old group for kids who are interested in improving as climbers, with the potential to enter the competitive stream or simply progress through the sport as passionate lifelong climbers. Sessions are 60 minutes per week, but parents have the option to extend this to 75 minutes. Rentals are included during sessions.

City of London Recreation

Hosted by the Junction Climbing Centre in partnership with the City of London's Recreation program, these programs are a great, affordable option for beginners. We offer classes for toddlers, young kids, teenagers, and adults—perfect for the whole family! Below is a summary of the offerings, but we recommend you visit their designated page for more information.

Parents and Tots that Rock: Parents and their kids aged 3 to 5

Little Grippers: Any kid aged 5 or 6

Friday Night Climbing Club: Teens ages 13 to 17

Policies, Funding, Questions

Program Policies - Please Read Before You Book:

Deposit & Cancellation: Full payment is required at registration, with 50% considered a non-refundable deposit. Cancellations must be emailed to alana@junctionclimbing.com at least two weeks before the first class for a full refund. Cancellations within two weeks will receive a Junction gift card for the amount paid, minus the deposit. If a program is canceled due to low enrollment, you will be notified via email, and a full refund will be issued. If a public health order forces closure, refunds will be prorated for missed days, minus the deposit. Exceptions are at Junction’s discretion. Desk staff cannot process refunds—email inquiries to alana@junctionclimbing.com.

Class Dates: Registration applies only to the selected day. No makeup sessions are offered for missed days. Be mindful of holiday breaks (e.g., Victoria Day, Thanksgiving).

Inclement Weather: If classes are canceled due to severe weather (e.g., snow, ice, storms, power outages), you will be notified via email by 4:00 PM. Decisions are based on guidance from Environment Canada and local schools. No refunds or makeup classes will be provided.

Funding for low-income families

Funding may be available for low-income families to cover the cost of our climbing programs. Please view our Funding Resources page for more information. $6.00 from every registration goes into our youth scholarship fund to help eliminate financial barriers to climbing.
