We start with figuring out how many holds we’ll need—a rough calculation based on the number of routes at each level of difficulty and the length of each. We chose seven colours—yellow, green, blue, red, orange, purple and black. Why these colours? We could give a longer answer but the simple one is they’re colourful!
Through endless tinkering and more than a bit of help and advice from some friends you come up with a plan. Some companies you buy similar sets in different colours, some you buy the same set in multiple colours. How do you pick which companies? Same as any other shopping—price, service and selection. We started with holds from Element Climbing, Rock Candy, Climb-it and So Ill. Great companies with incredible shapes and friendly service. We are lucky in this industry that there are so many companies making so many great products. Friction, Teknik, eGrips and the local start-up Ontoro are some we look forward to buying from soon.
